Homemade Pizza for Buka this Ramadan 2009

You get tired of eating rice day in, day out during Ramadan. It goes for me when it is not Ramadan. But the thought of making homemade pizza was appealing. Using a simple recipe for the base and the toppings... whatever my heart, and taste buds desired at the moment I came out with this version.

And what would go better with homemade pizza, is non other than a cup of hot coffee.

Here's the recipe:

Pizza Base:

2 1/2 cups plain flour
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoon dry powdered yeast
2/3 cup lukewarm water

Place flour, salt and olive oil in a bowl. Sprinkle the yeast over the lukewarm water to dissolve, then add to the flour mixture.

Knead ingredients together in the bowl, then turn out onto a floured work surface and knead vigorously for about 5 minutes. Roll out dough to fit a greased baking tray. Place on tray, cover and leave to rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.

Toppings:

Spread the pizza base with tomato sauce. I use "Prego" with the mushroom being my favourite. Top with cheese, sliced tomatoes, sliced brown mushrooms, fresh sweet basil leaves, mozarella cheese, and salami slices. Season with salt and pepper, and top with more cheese.

Bake in a preheated oven of 250 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes until edge of dough is slightly browned. Cut into slices on baking tray while still hot. Enjoy immediately.
