Delicious at Jalan Tun Razak

It's been a long time since I had a girls' get together with my two best friends. N recommended this new cafe at Jalan Tun Razak. It sounded familiar and when given the website, saw that the reason why, was that I would usually pass by it whenever I went to Bangsar Village. First impression, oh another restaurant that offers fusion food, but when N forwarded me the link that mentioned afternoon tea, that got my attention and I got her to make reservations and we decided to invite our best friend M and have a much needed girls' get together that weekend, or just now, this weekend that is.

Priced on the website as RM49.90, when actually RM59.90 on the menu, it consist of three tiers of platters. The first one with finger sandwices - a couple of cucumber sandwiches and a couple of (I believe smoked) salmon sandwiches, two round shaped egg sandwiches garnished with a dash of caviar, and a small serving of duck confit. The second platter with scones served with foamy cream and preserve which tasted like raspberry, and what we got was 3 little cupcakes decorated with frosting and colored gummy bears. Whilst the final platter was our choice of cake - chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.

It was quite dissappointing when the three tiered serving dish arrived and we realised that we did not get the strawberries along with its chocolate dip, the hand rolled chocolate truffles, and the rosemary and cheese cookies which would have been the highlight of the afternoon tea along with the scones and finger sandwiches. Most unfortunate was that none of the waiters or waitresses taking our order even bothered to mention it until we brought it up and was told that they had run out.... at 3:30 pm for the afternoon tea which was to be from 3 to 6 pm. The three cupcakes were supposed to be replacements for what we did not get. Though a few of the waitresses said that they would look into it, we ended up with what we got and no updates as to what was being done about it.

Together with the cakes and sandwiches, two teas were included and N ordered the Chamomile whilst I ordered the English Breakfast, and tea being tea, it was a warm welcome to the tidbits offered. We added a Macchiato for M, and kept the drinks coming with orders of homemade ginger beer, root beer float and a flat white and ordered a 3-cheeses sandwich coz we were hungry. Altogether a total of RM130.00. Being the mature, good natured people my friends are, we concentrated on having a good time catching up on each others married lives and the latest gossip right until 7pm.

The ambience of the cafe is cozy and comfortable, being seated at the lounge area near the glass wall overlooking Jalan Tun Razak. Honestly, the cafe is a nice place to sit and relax with good friends over good coffee and drinks, away from the hustle and bustle of the traffic outside and the stresses of work. The interior design is very modern and clean -- white with even whiter bird cages hanging over the counters of the serving and bar area. Brown and blue from the sofas and carpets offset the white to bring in a splash of color, creating a fun and cozy mood against the stark, white interior. The view from the glass walls show off the green from the foliage planted and the reality of the world outside from the traffic and tall buildings surrounding it.

Though we were dissappointed with what we got for our afternoon tea, my friend N, professes that the food is good, having being there a couple of times for dinner. I shall return again to the cafe, maybe not for the afternoon tea set, unless I am sure that all the offerings promised are offered, but maybe for dinner instead.

Roast Lamb Leg

Put on your best cooking show with a whole roasted lamb leg. I love it during festive occasions as it is well enjoyed by a group of people you love. Make it the centerpiece of your table by leaving space near the host (or you) that is, so that when all the guests are seated at the table, you come in and present the roast. As you are carving, it is when conversations arise regarding how big a portion, which part of the meat.. the "crusty burnt" part at the bone or the juicy "medium juicy" portion in the middle of the lamb leg that your guests want you to serve to them. Carving any kind of meat is always a social activity. Make sure you have all the side dishes ready in the middle of the table. The plates get passed to you as you carve.. some empty and some already laden with the side dishes or rice or potatoes so that you can pour the sauce over them as well as the portion of lamb. Have fun and enjoy!... Here, I am using New Zealand's Pure South Lamb...

Cooking Demo @ AEON Bandar Utama

When a long time work colleague approached me to do a cooking demo, I was excited at the opportunity to share my recipes and get people to eat healthy, simple meals.  The event would be the " Fresh Taste of New Zealand at the AEON Food Fair ", 21st April to the 4th May 2016.  The audience would be shoppers at the AEON Supermarket in Bandar Utama.  I was given the task to create a menu for a simple, healthy Lunch and then a Kids' Party Platter.  You can get all the recipes from this blog under the Label, "Recipes". Health Lunch Menu Vegetarian Chili Kid's Party Platter Stuffed Pita Pockets - Chicken Lollipops - Chocolate Pudding I opt for a Vegetarian Chili dish that would be an easy to prepare one dish meal with all the ingredients you would get at that supermarket.  I actually went shopping at the AEON Supermarket in Bandar Utama to get all of my ingredients to show how easy it would be to buy and prepare the meal. Wanita March 2009 Issue has More Treats

I've got four more recipes to share in this month's issue of Wanita Magazine. Check them out... Fallen Chocolate Cake... It may look like you made a mistake and the cake fell, but don't worry it's on purpose and this cake tastes moist and delicious. Drizzle some chocolate sauce or strawberry sauce on it and serve with vanilla ice-cream and fresh fruit; like strawberries, peaches or blueberries, for that very special occasion. As seen also on the cover of the recipes section, garnish this Cheesecake with a drizzle of Strawberry Sauce to add that extra flavor to this oh, so favourite recipe. On the top is what I call the Strawberry Layered Surprise. The surprise is the cake inside. You can use any cake, but my favourite is the Whipped Cream Cake. See the recipe in this blog for the cake in the Strawberry Cream Cake recipe. On the bottom of the page are Sweet Almond Cakes -- little cakes loaded with ground almonds that make them moist. Garnish with i
