The Children Don't Decide

Many times I've been eating out, especially late at night having a snack with my husband. It is actually an opportunity for the two of us to go 'dating' after coming home from a hard day's work and doing the never ending household chores eventhough the only children I have in the house is my 19 year old son. Well getting to the point.... can you imagine at 11 pm, there are parents who bring the children, in their pyjamas, out to dinner, or supper, or whatever you may call it. The only eating outlets open during this time in Malaysia are usually the 'mamak' restaurants (indian-muslim outlets) whose main menu would be curries, and oil laden dishes along with rich, spicy beriyani rice or roti canai with plenty of ghee. I guess five years ago, I wouldn't give it a second thought. But, now that I see more and more Malaysians overweight and their children, as young as three years old, overweight, it has become a major concern, whether anyone is aware of it or

Breakfast

It is so difficult to find a good breakfast here. I mean, a wholesome protein packed breakfast... Of course there are eggs in the morning... provided I make my own breakfast... that is. No wonder, many people are overweight with high blood pressure and diabetes being the most common ailment. Let me explain what I mean... I prefer the "western" version of breakfast, where you eat mostly protein; eggs, turkey or chicken ha

Tupai Tupai, KL

Here is the first one I am going to tell you about. This place is just right across the street from my office. I'd rather drive my car out of my office building parking lot and go one round into this eats parking rather than risk a dangerous run across the road, but it's worth the effort. Someone actually introduced me to it during the company's farewell to an employee. It provides a variety of Malaysian dishes to appeal for everyone's diversified tastes; since we were from different cultural backgrounds. We had a satisfying dinner with food that was able to fulfill the palate; hot and spicy soups, sweet, salty dishes, fresh and green vegetables, to top the steaming white rice that made the perfect end meal of the day topped with the good company. They have good lunch too... And I have driven my car for the 2 minute drive a few more times to meet up with friends for lunch. In short; The environment: Cool and comfortable even with many guests and all tables full, under t
